I LOVE MY WHITE SHOES!

Storytime at the Library

Today we have carried out a cool activity. In order to celebrate the World Book Day, our students have prepared a storytelling activity.  They have read “Pete the cat – I love my White Shoes” to the children in our public library. 

Preparing this activity was quite a lot of work. The students did not only have to learn the story by heart, but also they had to sing it, and to play the guitar and the cymbal. They also made use of facial expressions, changing tones, etc. to help them understand sentences better. The children listened to the story so attentively that the library was completely quiet. (Except for the songs!) It was the 'magic of story time'! Using a Kamishibai really helped to get it too.  

When the students finished the story, they set up to work! Each group got in charge of 10 children and had them play a “colour bingo game”: The children were give a set of small shoe cards to colour. Then, they placed these sets face up on the table in front on them. One of our students picked out one picture card of each colour. As the student showed each card, he/she asked “What colour would it turn the shoes?” , the children flipped the shoe colour card over face down and kept playing until all of the colours were face down.

This activity is worth repeating. You can bet on it!

CUENTACUENTOS EN LA BIBLIOTECA

Hoy hemos realizado una actividad “muy chula” en la biblioteca. Para celebrar el Día Internacional del Libro” nuestros estudiantes han preparado un cuentacuentos en la biblioteca leyendo el cuento más famoso de “Pete the Cat”: I love my White Shoes”.

Pete se ha comprado unos preciosos zapatos blancos, pero en su paseo encuentra diferentes obstáculos que tiñen sus zapatos de muchos colores. Pero él no pierde nunca el buen humor y canta su canción en inglés. 

Los alumnos han tenido que trabajar mucho para esta actividad a pesar de tratarse de la lectura de un cuento infantil. Tenían que aprenderse la historia de memoria, cantarla al ritmo de las guitarras y el platillo y hacer uso de la mímica y las diferentes entonaciones de voz para ayudar a los pequeños a comprender mejor el cuento en inglés.  El resultado: los niños estaban tan atentos que había un absoluto silencio en la biblioteca. (Excepto cuando había que cantar, claro!) “La magia del cuentacuentos!” Por supuesto, el Kamishibai contribuyó también a crear este mágico momento.

Tras el cuento…a trabajar! Nuestros  estudiantes se encargaron de organizar un “Bingo de Colores”. Primero colorearon las zapatillas de Pete y después jugaron a un bingo: las zapatillas de Pete iban pisando diferentes alimentos y los pequeños tenían que indicar, en inglés, el color resultante en las zapatillas y después girar la carta correspondiente.

Merece la pena repetir esta actividad. ¡A que sí!

STUDENTS BECOME TEACHERS….AGAIN!!

Today our students from 2^nd year have been to   "Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios School” again! They enjoyed their last visit so much they wanted to go back there. This time, they gave the lesson to the students in the 2nd grade.

This is how this activity came into being. The children at school were studying the vocabulary related to school facilities, subjects and hobbies. So, our students came up with the idea of showing them a power point presentation with pictures of our high school, the subjects they study and some of the games they can play there.  The lesson they planned was called “Break Time!”

The lesson started with the song the children usually sing warm themselves up “Over the Deep Blue Sea”. It was so much fun!

After watching the video and revising some vocabulary, the children played a “Guess Who?” game. They were all so engaged in the game that everybody got their happy face stickers!

We are trying to think of an excuse to go back to school! What will we do in our next visit? 

Hoy los alumnos de 2º han vuelto al colegio “Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios”. Disfrutaron tanto la última vez que estaban deseando volver. Esta vez, la clase ha sido para los alumnos de segundo de primaria.

La idea surgió porque los chavales del cole estaban estudiando el vocabulario y algunas funciones comunicativas relacionadas con relacionado con el colegio, las asignaturas y juegos en la escuela. ¿Y qué mejor forma que repasar con ellos todo esto que enseñándoles nuestro instituto por dentro, las asignaturas que estudiamos y los juegos que se pueden practicar en nuestro centro? ¡Todo en inglés, of course! La lección se llamaba “Break Time”: “descanso” en español, pero nos gusta más como suena en inglés ;)

Empezamos la clase cantando con los niños una canción “Over the Deep Blue Sea”. ¡Fue divertidísimo!

Tras ver el vídeo y revisar el vocabulario los pequeños jugaron a “Quién es Quién?”. Fueron tan participativos que todos consiguieron una pegatina con una “carita contenta”. 

Ya estamos pensando en otra excusa para volver al cole. ¿Qué se nos ocurrirá la próxima vez?

A BRIGHT BASEBALL VISIT!

Today, the students in 3^rd year have been to  Benamejí to visit their baseball facilities. This visit is part of the activities organised to celebrate the “Five Nations Fair”, which will be hold next month at our school. 

Our language assistant, Katie, came with us and gave us some instructions on how to play this popular American sport. 

We would like to thank Juan Jesús Adalid and their students of Higher Education in Social and Sporting Activities as well as Jose Manuel Artacho, the Town Councillor for Sports. They all made their best so that our students could enjoy the opportunity to practice this sport. 

We will certainly go back next year! 

UNA VISITA BRILLANTE A LA CUNA DEL BEISBOL EN ANDALUCÍA

Hoy los estudiantes de 3º de ESO han ido de excursión a Benamejí para visitar sus estupendas instalaciones deportivas de béisbol. Esta excursión forma parte de las actividades programadas dentro de la “Feria de las Cinco Naciones” cuya celebración tendrá lugar el mes próximo.

Nuestra querida auxiliar de conversación, Katie Watson, que nos acompañaba, nos explicó algunas de las reglas de este deporte, tan popular en su país. 

Nos gustaría agradecer a Juan Jesús Adalid y sus nueve alumnos del Ciclo Superior de Actividades Sociodeportivas la atención prestada en todo momento: las explicaciones, la excelente organización de la visita, la paciencia a la hora de poner en marcha los ejercicios prácticos...etc.

Nuestros niños han llegado encantados. ¡Volveremos el año que viene!
