TIME 4 TEACHING / VOLVEMOS AL COLE

Last month, our students at EOS went to “Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios” to teach a lesson about farm animals to the kids from the 2^nd year. 

Once more, the children were enthusiastic and our students enjoyed the visit so much they are looking forward to go back again for a storytelling session , which we are already preparing J . 

After Soraya’s presentation, it was Andrea’s turn: the kids had to guess the animals through riddles and sounds (thanks Mimoun for your invaluable contribution to this part of the lesson). Then, María and Alejandra explained the second part of the lesson: the children had to create their own animal by adding different parts to an animal body. They also had to describe them and share their invented animal with the rest of the class. Finally, the kids had some time to play with our homemade “Farm Animal Dobble Kids”. 

We would like to thank teacher Clara for welcoming and allowing us to carry out this activity. Teaching a language is one of the best ways of learning it and our students feel confident when confronted with a group of children (they can easily overcome the anxiety of speaking a foreign language).

Nuestros alumnos de EOS han vuelto al cole “Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios” para dar una clase sobre los animales de la granja a los alumnos de 2º de primaria.

Una vez más, los pequeños mostraron un gran entusiasmo y nuestros alumnos pasaron un rato tan divertido que están deseando volver de nuevo, esta ver para un cuentacuentos que ya están preparando. 

Soraya fue la encargada de presentar la actividad y tras ella Andrea explicó la primera tarea a los alumnos de primaria: acertar el animal a través de adivinanzas y sonidos (gracias Mimoum por tu impagable contribución en esta parte de la lección). A continuación, con la ayuda de María, Andrea y los demás, los alumnos crearon su propio animal inventado, elaboraron una pequeña descripción y expusieron el resultado de su trabajo al resto de los compañeros. Por último, los niños jugaron con un “Dobble Kids” casero sobre los animales de la granja. 

Nos gustaría agradecer a la “Seño Clara” el habernos abierto las puertas de su clase. Esta actividad es muy beneficiosa para los alumnos de nuestro centro puesto que hablar en inglés delante de un grupo de niños entusiastas les resulta más fácil y divertido que en otros contextos.

CHECK THE GATE! / ¡SILENCIO, SE RUEDA!

Language assistants are always curious about how their future school is going to be and George and Helena are not an exception. 

In fact, we spent last summer months sending them information about Estepa (accommodation, leisure activities to do during their free time, tips and advice for their stay…) and our school (the bilingual program, school facilities…).

As a matter of fact, the same happens with our students. They are always eager to know as many details as possible about their new language assistants: their life at home, family, hobbies... That’s why Helena sent us a video presentation (which you can see at "A bit about me: Helena" ).

Ya sabíamos que nuestro nuevo auxiliar, George, era de Londres y quisimos crear expectación 

con respecto a su procedencia entre nuestro alumnado.

Let’s get to the point. In order to satisfy our language assistants-to-be curiosity about our school, the students at EOS (English Oral Skills) have recorded a video where they show the school facilities.

Cuando cada año los auxiliares de conversación son nombrados por el Ministerio y la Consejería de Educación, estos suelen mostrar mucha curiosidad por el centro en el que van a trabajar.  George y Helena no han sido una excepción, por supuesto. 

De hecho, este último verano lo hemos pasado enviándoles información sobre nuestro pueblo (alojamiento, actividades que podían realizar en su tiempo libre…) y nuestro centro (el programa bilingüe, nuestras instalaciones…)

La verdad es que nuestros propios estudiantes también sienten mucha curiosidad por conocer detalles de los auxiliares que “les tocan” cada año: de donde son, cómo viven, intereses personales…etc. Así que tanto George como Helena nos enviaron un video de presentación (que puedes ver aquí )

También lanzamos la pregunta sobre la nacionalidad de Helena.  

En fin, yendo al grano.  Para satisfacer la curiosidad de nuestros próximos auxiliares, los estudiantes de EOS (asignatura optativa de 2º de bachillerato en la que se trabajan las destrezas orales del inglés) han grabado un vídeo muy simpático mostrando el centro por dentro.

PLAYTIME! / ¡A JUGAR!

Today, we have had the visit of the students in the  6^TH year of primary schools “Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios” and “Santa Victoria” and our English Department has organised a workshop for them. 

María, Arturo R., Carmen, Julio, Claudia, Alejandro, Marta, José Antonio, Lidia, Isabel, Sheila, Arturo G.  and Isabel hosted a game-themed workshop where the kids could play and have fun while using the English language at the same time. With this workshop, we wanted to show the children our teaching philosophy: “Learn and Enjoy English”. 

First, Arturo and Julio welcomed the kids and invited them to play a quiz about our school. Then, the rest of our students set up four game board corners: “Pop to the shops”, “Number Corner”, “What a performace!” and “Tell the time”. 

The children got into groups and went around the classroom playing the board games. They had fun challenging themselves and competing with their friends. The games included practicing functional language connected to shopping, talking about routines, telling the time and words related to basic mathematical operations.   

Hoy nos han visitado los alumnos de 6º de los centros de primaria “Ntra. Sra. de los Remedios” y “Santa Victoria”. Nuestro departamento de inglés ha organizado un taller para ellos siguiendo nuestra filosofía de enseñanza: aprender y divertirse con el inglés. 

María, Arturo R., Carmen, Julio, Claudia, Alejandro, Marta, José Antonio, Lidia, Isabel, Sheila, Arturo G.  e Isabel fueron los anfitriones de este taller de juegos. Los alumnos de 2º B  prepararon un “quiz” de bienvenida y varios rincones con juegos de mesa en inglés: “Pop to the shops”, “Number Corner”, “What a performace!” y “Tell the time”.

Gracias a estos juegos, los escolares pudieron practicar el vocabulario y las expresiones necesarias para ir de compras, hablar sobra las rutinas diarias, realizar operaciones matemáticas y realizar diversos desafíos en el juego “What a performance!” (“Menuda actuación!”)
